UART is not working

demir
Senior II

Hi,

I have checked connections and assured that everything is set up correctly. When I run the below code, I cant see anything on serial console.

Does anyone have any idea about the root cause ?

I have updated the ST Link firmware and issue disappeared. I can test that UART is working, I have just written a simple code to check and I can see via serial console that UART is fine.

On the other hand, the original issue still persists.

Not sure I understand this comment. You've already succeeded to make UART working, what do you expect?

You need to start based on this working UART simple code and add step by step more code and check at each step where it fails. This is how to find and debug the issues.

I thought the original issue was that the UART didn't work?

So, if you can now see that the UART is fine, what's the remaining problem?

Hi,

I still can not see any message on console printed when I run below code. I have debugged it and came to know, there is problem at SystemClock_Config(); yet I do not know what the issue, please see clock configuration in below as well.

I have also commented out SystemClock_Config() and debugged again, this time error_handler() is called t MX_RTC_Init() function.

I suspect that, there is something wrong with my clock configuration, I just can not see what that is.

When I commented out MX_RTC_Init() function, the application runs flawlessly. Thus, after debugging I made it sure that the problem is with initialization of both system clock and RTC.

I hope I have made the topic clear, else please let me know for further information. Thanks for the support, much appreciated.

So, really, you have fixed the original problem - "UART is not working" - and now you have a different problem?

It would be better to mark the solution to your "UART is not working" problem, and start a new thread for the new problem.

Give a link here to the new thread, so people can find it.

Also give a link back to here in the new thread for reference.

This is what I suggested him in my first comment in this thread.

@demir Could you please close this thread by selecting one of the comments that solved your UART problem? or give the solution here and close it after?

To give better visibility on the answered topics, please click on "Accept as Solution" on the reply which solved your issue or answered your question.

Hello,

You might be confusing threads, as I didnt write on that thread which you are referring to.

Also, please note that, the original problem was not UART non functioning. The original problem is that my code is not scheduled, it is stuck at SystemClock_Config() and when I commented out this part, then the application gets stuck at MX_RTC_Init() function. Please see the previous message I have sent on this thread. I have explained the original issue in greater detail.

That was the original question, therefore it does not make sense to accept one of the answers as solution. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Thank you for your support.

Right - that is very confusing!

The title of the thread is "UART is not working", and the initial post is all focussed on the UART not working.

So perhaps the best thing would be to close-off this thread with a post saying, "it wasn't the UART after all", and then start a new thread with the question about SystemClock_Config()  - and without all the UART distraction ?

Again, with links.

I dont read all, but primary is your code copy from ... or generated in MX right way?

Have your board LSE ?

I am crating new thread as per request, please find details in there.
