Here's what eDesignSuite shows for a Boost DC/DC converter. The L7981 is a Buck converter so I don't understand the given results. Please anyone could clarify this?

I am very sorry that the eDesign Suite displays this in a somewhat ambiguous way. STMicroelectronics does not have a boost regulator that can generate 24V from 13...18V without a circuit extension.
The L7981A is indeed a buck regulator, but like the other regulators shown (e.g. L7986A) it can be extended to a positive buck-boost with an external MOSFET. Such a regulator can then produce an output voltage that lies between the minimum and maximum input voltage, here e.g. 24V from 13...27V.
Hope that answers your question?
