STM32CubeIDE hangs when opening MX /.ioc view

AScha.3
Chief II

starting the IDE is like rolling the dice every day : will it start and run perfect - or not ?

this happens about once in 100 starts, then it hangs in the splash window and you cannot do anything more.

seems to be a "well known" thing, there is some workaround, here:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/73496451/stm32-cube-ide-after-initial-successfull-launch-and-use-now-remains-idle-durin

>> To fix this, just remove this file inside your workspace:

>> .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.e4.workbench/workbench.xmi

>> Hope this solves the issue.

>> (this file is the responsible of saving your workbench layout)

ok, this resets the windows and menus to initial state, but its working again.

then again rolling the dice , when opening MX view  (.ioc file) it might open or just hang up with an empty background screen; only killing the IDE can stop this.

error log:

there seems to be a basic problem long time, because the "MX plugin seems to be active" (seems (!!!) is which language? Java for kiddies ?) message coming all the time, even since i always close MX view before shutdown every time, to  avoid reduce the crash events.

this is on IDE 1.13.1 on Linux system, but was same before...and also on Win PC; just on my Laptop on Win10/64 is different: IDE crashes always (!) after new project and generating code (all ok so far), when starting IDE next time on this workspace. So not really better here. 🙂

Hello @AScha.3  and welcome to the community,

Could you please provide the used Ubuntu version.

This command " lsb_release -a " could help you display the Ubuntu version.

Thanks,

Rim

Hello @AScha.3 ,

Thank you for your contributions and for your detailed explanations. An internal ticket ID 165338(This is an internal tracking number and is not accessible or usable by customers)has already been submitted to escalate this issue to the STM32CubeIDE team. It will be fixed in the next releases.

Thanks,

Rim

It looks like a common problem in Ubuntu :

https://community.st.com/t5/stm32cubeide-mcus/ioc-tab-not-rendering-in-ubuntu/m-p/619327

That was in CubeIDE 1.13.1, 1.13.2, now in 1.14.0...
