I am a 3rd year electrical and electronics engineering student and I am working with the stm32f407 discovery card. It looks like there is st link v2 a embedded on the card, but I can't debug it in any way. Do I need to use st link v2 usb in this card, please help me. This situation destroys my motivation and I cannot move forward.

Hello there!

If you have the discovery card there should be (as you mention) an embedded v2 already.

What happens when you try to debug? You mention that you can't but not why you can't. Could you enable the gdbserver log and post the log and the console output?

Some additional information would be needed to get a better idea of what goes wrong.

If the ST-Link is detected at all I would try to go to the device manager and see if you have ST-Link detected at all to the PC:

If you have no connection then I would think there are two possibilities:

  1. HW issue, either cable or board
  2. Security issue, for example no USB access or anti-virus blocking something
