STLink v3 Not in Device Manager

Hello  I have been using an STLink v3 pod successfully for several months but suddenly it stopped working.  The green light is lit and the red one flashes slowly.  I cannot see it in Device Manager and there are no Unknown Devices.  There is no chime when I plug it in.  I also don't see the Virtual Com Port in Device Manager or the drive in My Computer that usually comes up.   Cube IDE reports "No ST-LINK detected!  Please connect ST-LINK and restart the debug session" Windows does not report any malfunctions or driver failures.

 

I tried  the following things and all of them get the same blinking lights.

--rebooting my machine  (Windows 10)

--upgrading CubeIDE 1.15.0

-- running installer for ST Link driver: https://www.st.com/en/development-tools/stsw-link009.html

-- upgrading LibUSB: https://community.st.com/t5/stm32-mcus-boards-and-hardware/no-st-link-detected-only-in-cubeide/m-p/220718

--different cable and usb port  (plugged directly into computer)

-- second STLink V3 programmer

 

I plugged the pod into another computer and it works.  Any suggestions on how to fix my computer?

Hmm.  It does work if I plug it into a USB C dock.   Maybe my USB conroller needs an update....

The pod isn't dead.  It works fine if I plug it into a different compuer.

I would be perfectly happy if I could just use a different ST Link V3 pod but it does the same thing when plugged into my computer.

 

I suspect it's a driver issue but I don't know where to begin.

 

Are you using it through a hub or docking station?

Try connecting it direct, and disconnecting all other USB devices - including any hubs or docking stations.

No hubs or docking stations.  Tried several USB ports on my computer and a different cable.

It wouldn't: if the ST-Link is not appearing in the Device Manager, that means the PC can't see it at all - so no apps are going to be able to see it.

 

However, having got it working on a USB-C port, you might try the firmware update then.

The other thread found that disabling the MSC helped...

Power or timing issue. Good external hub can "fix" it.
