ST-link detected in Nucleo mode. not in st-link mode for external programmer

I have a STM nucleo board which I was using to program a STMF4x custom board via SWD in Arduino IDE. It was working fine. But all of a sudden, the ST link is not getting detected if I remove the CN2. The arduino ide says "target not found".. Its the same case with ST-Link utility as well. But when I put the CN2 jumpers back, it goes to nucleo mode and both the arduino ide and st-link utility detect the board.

I am not sure why this problem rose suddenly. I tried checking for any hardware faults in the nucleo board, but its all good. I also tried resintalling the ST-link drivers several times and have also upgraded the nucleo interface firmware to the latest version successfully, but no result.

It would be great if someone would help me out from this situation. Thanks in advance :)
