STLINK-V3PWR does not work on my notebook, because the USB port cannot supply enough power

Power measurement with the STLINK-V3PWR does not work on my notebook because the USB 3.0 port cannot supply enough power. The PC software STM32CubeMonitor-Power - v1.2.0 reports "error Power measurement not available. Please use a more powerful USB port." With an existing USB 2.0 hub with power supply it does not work either. Is there any recommendation with which USB hub (with additional power supply) it works?

Is there another workaround?

Dear Christophe,

Thank you very much for your reply I tried with jeliyea 7 port aluminimum powered usb (which has the spark symbol)

yet this didn't work. The COM port wasn't working.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you very much,

Guillermo

Dear Guillermo,

- Did you updated the STLINK-V3PWR with the latest firmware?

- Which OS are you using on PC side?

Could you please let me know the "USB" and the "COM" LEDs behavior onto the STLINK-V3PWR when you plug the USB port.

Thank you in advance for your feedback

Best regards,

Christophe

-Windows 10

Power is green and port is clinking red

Thank you very much!

Hello Guillermo,

may you please precise what you call "power" and what you call "port" ? If "USB" LED is green and "COM" LED is blinking red (my assumption), it would mean that you are connected to a charging port but without data connection. Is it possible in your case ? (USB port + cable)
The expected state for correct behavior is "USB" LED green and "COM" LED red (not blinking). See UM3097 and TN1235 for more details if required. At this state you should be able to see the STLINK-V3PWR device in the Windows device manager. In case "COM" LED is blinking red, please have a look into the Windows device manager to check if any device appears with a failure, this may give some track to follow

Best regards

Been there. Tried that.

It's pretty mis leading - that adaptor has 3 USB 3.2 ports which don't have the power, but do have date ( IDE worked )  and 3 fast charging ports - which don't have the data, but do have the power.

Chocolate fireguard, as far as this application goes.

Hi Christophe - I am working with a s/w engineer who is using a laptop.

My desktop - with an itegral USB-C port works fine with the V3. We need to be able to connect to the laptop too and are trying to obtain a suitable powered USB-C hub.

It appears that most of the powered USB-C hubs available have several data ports and a lesser number of high power charging ports - we just bought one such device, a Jeliyea 7 port, and nearly bought another one - PULLWTOP, with the same issue.

We are looking now at these RSHTECH with 3 x USB-A 3.0 ports :- Data transfer speed up to 5Gbps. (The USB-A 3.0 port supports BC 1.2 protocol and provides 1.5A charging for smart watches, USB fans and other small USB devices )

https://www.amazon.co.uk/RSHTECH-Charging-Aluminum-Splitter-RSH-A10QPD-Black/dp/B0CLGFHGGX/?th=1

Would the RSHTECH be suitable to use with a V3-PWR?

If not PLEASE provide details of powered USB-C hubs which are known to work.

Here's what I've found :-

USB, Green - good. Enough power for Monitor power meauremnt tool.

USB, orange. Not enough power for Monitor. OK for IDE tpoo program.

Com - Red - Power only. Not a data port.

Com - Red / Green - comms up and running.

Hello John,

I checked the spec for the RSH-A10QPD and the 4 x USB 3.0 ports support BC1.2. (with 1.5A)

As the STLINK-V3PWR is compatible with BC1.2 then it will work according to me.

Regards,

Christophe
