STM32WB55 USART1 Receving incorrect data

TGUCL.1
Associate III

Hi

I`m using PNUCLEOWB55 Board for testing USART1 interrupt communications.

I have started a project from scratch using CubeID 1.10.1 and choosed PA9 and PA10 as TX/RX respectively with following configuration 115200Baud, WordLen 8bits(including parity), Stop bits None , Parity None.TeraTerm on the PC is also configured same way.

I have enabled NVIC interrupts and using receive callbacks like below

/* USER CODE BEGIN 4 */
void HAL_UART_RxCpltCallback(UART_HandleTypeDef *huart)
{

    HAL_UART_Receive_IT(&huart1, &data[0], 10);
}
/* USER CODE END 4 */

Callback is executed after 10 characters have been send from TeraTerm. Problem is , data array holds entirely different data from what I have sent. I have also tested

USART_Communication_Rx_IT example project but still similar issue.

I have also tested PB6 and PB7 but nothing changed. There is nothing wroing with the generation of interrupt or execution of callback. On the PC side I`m using a USB to serial converter cable. This is how USART1 is initialised

  }
  /* USER CODE BEGIN USART1_Init 2 */
  HAL_UART_Receive_IT (&huart1, data, 10);

  /* USER CODE END USART1_Init 2 */

}

All of the code I have pasted here is generated except the calls to HAL_UART_Receive_IT  and HAL_UART_RxCpltCallback.

I started to think that there is another problem with the board itself .

I started to think there is something wrong with my board jumper settings or clock tree configuration but can`t tell where to look at.

Can you tell me what i might be missing ?

Thank

Where is your data array declared and how often is data being received? Post the code for HAL_UART_RxCpltCallback as well

I don't see anything wrong in the code.

Do you loop back test. Connect the Tx and Rx pins together on your board. Create an array below your data array you've declared

Place a break point in the HAL_UART_RxCpltCallback and just before main while loop transmit the data. It should break. See if the contents of your data array has the transmitted data. If it matches then it has to be some other issue like Tera term not set for the correct baud rate. Or maybe the USB to UART interface has issues?

I can have the STM32 device set for 115200 and a serial program set for 57600 and still interrupt with 10 bytes. The received data ended up being garbage.

You don't have to declare your variable static if you place your first HAL_UART_Receive_IT before main while loop

The debugger will break and you should see the tx contents nData in your data (pData for me)0693W00000WIpNZQA1.png

How are you connecting the NUCLEO to your PC? Make sure you are not connecting RS233/EIA232 signal levels (+/-3V or greater) to your NUCLEO (0-3V).

I`m using CN10 PB6 and PB7 pins to connect to DB9 of a usb to serial converter. this is suggested method in the uart examples and used to work before.

Same code worked on another pnucleo board. This indicates someting wrong with my (1)uart cable or (2)cpu board

For the (1) i did a looback test by connect tx to rx on the db9 connector and test via tera term. cable is fine

For the (2) is there a way i can diagnose the board ?perhaps clock inaccuracy ?

Thanks

You're using the wrong type of USB to serial adapter. You need a USB to Serial with TTL signals, not RS-232 signals.

RS-232 needs a converter like a MAX3232 to convert the RS-232 voltages to TTL level. Or just buy the correct adapter.

I am using STM32F4 discovery board. And while I receive or transmit in the minicom console I see corrupted data. while putting breakpoint for transmit and observe that data is not corrupted while assigning the data to data register, but in the console I am seeing different data. Do in my case also I have to change the adapter. If so please tell me how to find the correct adapter? Thanks.
