Have a look also at TAG connect if we are talking of a production board which prefferably for cost, does not use any connector.

See UM2502 (the ST-LINKv3 document), Fig 10 on page 19.
It is 14-pin extension of the 10-pin connector. Two pair of pins added on both sides.
As a minimum you'll need SWDIO, SWDCLK, GND and NRST (optional but highly recommended).
Then you can connect T_VCC, useful to detect the target voltage.
Then you can connect SWO - or the two extension pins from UART TX, RX on the target to the VCP of the debugger or standalone TTL UART to USB adapter. Either option is very useful.
If the target footprint is tight, consider needle connector (6 or 10 pin variants) - but the adapter cables are obscenely expensive.
