I'm trying to communicate with a SanDisk Ultra 16GB microSD HC card (mounted with this) using a NUCLEOf411RE board, SDIO and FATFS. I've been trying to follow this post as a guideline, and I keep running into an issue in f_mkfs where it constantly returns F_NOT_READY. I've slightly modified the code per some commentors suggestions in the original post, but still haven't had any luck.

I inserted the sections with the UART to see if the debugger itself was causing the problems, but I keep getting the same returns. When I did run the debugger, it gets to line 5335 in ff.c and returns from there:
Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

DISKIO layer is flagging the Read, Write or Status as being not ready or not present?
Perhaps due to a GPIO designated to read the Card Present switch on the SD Card Socket flagging the card as not being in the socket?
Probably not going to see this in top-level code, go look at the xyz_diskio.c implementation

This is what I'm seeing in the diskio.c file as I go down the layers in mkfs. Do I need to dive further down or look around in here during the fs_mount function?
edit: I think I forgot to mention (and I feel real *** for this now that I think about it) but I'm pretty sure I'm running version 1.8.0 or thereabouts.
edit again. Okay, I didn't realize how much deeper into the functions you could get here. Just kept clicking step into until I got as deep as I could and you're on the money that the problem is related to SD detection GPIO. It's reading as not present.
The pin assigned is A5 on the Arduino Uno layout and PC0 on STM32 layout (NUCLEO-64 board).
ANOTHER edit:
Okay, so just for the kick in the teeth, I decided to run this AGAIN with the microSD physically removed from the card holder, and NOW the system is registering the detection as present! So when the card is present, the system thinks it isn't, and when it isn't present, the system thinks it is!
FUN!!!
Solution for this particular problem was found in this post: FATFS middleware: invert card detect logic level - STMicroelectronics Community. Basically, my card holder makes things work the opposite way that ST has their code written. Part of me wonders is that's also the cause of my newest problem, but that's getting its own post
