Is STLINK-V3 suitable for production use as pure programmer?

Welcome, @Pontus Klarsjö, to the community!

Well, the ST-LINK are meant to be tools for development, which is why it says in the Terms of Use in section RESTRICTIONS AND WARNINGS:

[...]

You shall not use, in whole or in part, the Evaluation Board in a production system.

[...]

For professional production, especially with higher quantities, a special programmer is certainly more suitable, which you can find, for example, on our partner website.

Hi @Peter BENSCH ,

thank you for the answer. I have some additional questions regarding this topic:

This just applies for the evaluation boards containing the STLINKV3 and not the STLINK-V3SET as it isn't an evaluation board, right?

It is promoted and sold as stand-alone programming probe which otherwise would be quite misleading: The STLINK-V3SET is a modular stand-alone debugging and programming probe for the STM8 and STM32 microcontrollers.

As background:

I would like to use the STM32CubeMonitor for system and production testing for a small scale production where the product is not batch programmed.

Are both of these use-cases possible with the STLINK-V3SET, just the system testing or neither of them?

If these are not possible: Can you please recommend an alternative in-circuit debugger and programmer to use with STM32CubeMonitor (and SWD-Interface) as I wasn't able to find this information on your partner website linked above.

Thank you for your help!

Best regards

Martin

@MKori.1 No, this applies to all tools from STMicroelectronics for which the terms and conditions are stated on the respective product website, e.g. for the ST-LINK/V3SET here. This document always has the same wording.

All ST-LINK, including the ST-LINK/V3SET are tools for evaluation, programming and debugging. They are not released for production purposes.

What you ultimately do with them is your responsibility.

Hi,

thank you very much for your fast response!

Just one final question: Am I right in the assumption that the live-view functionality and the connection in STM32CubeMonitor is only available with STLinkV2/V3 and not with partner products?

Best regards,

Martin

Yes, according to the information available to me, STM32CubeMonitor only supports ST-LINK so far.
