UART is not working

Hi,

I have checked connections and assured that everything is set up correctly. When I run the below code, I cant see anything on serial console.

Does anyone have any idea about the root cause ?

Hi,

which board ?

custom/ which cpu ?

What you connect to ---> usb ?

If you feel a post has answered your question, please click "Accept as Solution".

>>Does anyone have any idea about the root cause ?

Are you sure the code is running?

Can you toggle a GPIO/LED at the same time?

Configuring the right pins, code not shown, connectivity not diagrammed. Hard to diagnose with the imagination.

Can you look at the signals with a scope?

Tips, Buy me a coffee, or three.. PayPal Venmo
Up vote any posts that you find helpful, it shows what's working..

I have added  HAL_GPIO_TogglePin(GPIOD, GPIO_PIN_14) to check if code is actually running, you are right that it doesnt run at all.

You need to debug your application. Put breakpoints where you suspect an issue or step by step your application it could be stuck in the Error Handler!

To give better visibility on the answered topics, please click on "Accept as Solution" on the reply which solved your issue or answered your question.

Thanks for directing me in the right way. You re right, application is stuck at error handler while configuring system clock. Could you please check for me if I did wrong configuration for the clock ?

Tell us a little more about the board and chip you're using here. Lacking much in the way of context.

You can comment out the call to SystemClock_Config() and the chip will just keep running with the boot settings.

You still haven't told us:

  1. What chip you're using
  2. What board you're using:
    • Is it an ST board? Give the name
    • Is it a 3rd-party board? Give a link to specifications, schematics, etc
    • A custom design? Give schematics
  3. How you're connecting to the UART
  4. Do you have an oscilloscope to check for signs of life?

Sorry guys.

My board is STM32F407VG-DISC1.

I am encountering an issue now that is I cant connect to the board. Please see the error I get below.

I have updated the ST Link firmware and issue disappeared. I can test that UART is working, I have just written a simple code to check and I can see via serial console that UART is fine.

On the other hand, the original issue still persists.
