Suitability of STM32U535CB for Bicycle Computer Application and Recommendations for Optimized Version

Dear STM Community

I am reaching out on behalf of our development team, as we are in the process of selecting an appropriate microcontroller for a bicycle computer application. We are considering the STM32U535CB for its ultra-low power consumption, robust performance, and security features. However, we would like to verify its suitability for our specific needs and discuss whether there may be other recommended versions within the STM32U5 series that would better meet our application requirements.

Project Overview

We are developing two versions of a bicycle computer:

  1. Version 1: A model with a touchscreen interface.
  2. Version 2: A non-touch model with similar display requirements but simplified control.

Our primary goals are to optimize both versions for low power consumption to extend battery life and efficient data processing for GPS, sensor data, and real-time display.

Key Considerations for STM32U535CB:

  1. Power Efficiency:

    • The STM32U535CB’s ultra-low power modes are highly appealing, particularly in Stop Mode and Standby Mode for battery conservation. We would like to confirm if this microcontroller can handle intermittent high-power tasks (such as GNSS data processing and display updates) without significant increases in overall power consumption.
  2. Display and Interface Compatibility:

    • We plan to use the LS032B7DD02 MIP display for both versions of our product. For the touch model, would the STM32U535CB support capacitive touch interfaces efficiently, or would you recommend a different model that provides optimized touch capabilities?
  3. Wi-Fi Connectivity Options:

    • Wi-Fi connectivity is desired for data synchronization, and we’d like to understand the most efficient way to achieve this with the STM32U535CB. Would you recommend pairing it with an external Wi-Fi module, or would an alternative ST microcontroller with integrated wireless capabilities be better suited?
  4. Product Consistency:

    • Would you recommend using the same SoC for both touch and non-touch models to simplify our prototyping and production processes, or are there specific benefits to choosing different SoCs for each model? Any guidance on this would be highly valuable.

We appreciate your insights and any recommendations on potentially more suitable microcontrollers in the STM32U5 series or other ST offerings that would optimize power efficiency and simplify our design process. Additionally, if there are specific Wi-Fi modules that you would recommend pairing with this series, please let us know.

Thank you very much for your time and support. We look forward to your recommendations.

Best regards,
