Help with Led blinking - STM32F7508-DK

Hi folks, first off all I'd say to that I'm really new to MCU and for some silly reason I went for a STM32F7508-DK as my first board of STM3. With that being said, I'm asking for help on why my Led blinking code is not working,

I disabled all the pins that I'm not using and just enabling PI1 for the LED and PI11 for the button. The program is supposed to blink the LED every 500ms but the LED just remains on.

When I try to debug the program seems to get stuck in this function: (within stm32f7xx_hal.c)

HAL_StatusTypeDef HAL_Init(void)
{
  /* Configure Instruction cache through ART accelerator */
#if (ART_ACCLERATOR_ENABLE != 0)
   __HAL_FLASH_ART_ENABLE();
#endif /* ART_ACCLERATOR_ENABLE */

  /* Configure Flash prefetch */
#if (PREFETCH_ENABLE != 0U)
  __HAL_FLASH_PREFETCH_BUFFER_ENABLE();
#endif /* PREFETCH_ENABLE */

  /* Set Interrupt Group Priority */
  HAL_NVIC_SetPriorityGrouping(NVIC_PRIORITYGROUP_4);

  /* Use systick as time base source and configure 1ms tick (default clock after Reset is HSI) */
  HAL_InitTick(TICK_INT_PRIORITY);

  /* Init the low level hardware */
  HAL_MspInit();

  /* Return function status */
  return HAL_OK;
}

Any help is really welcomed.

Thanks.

Welcome. @MC.4osmes, to the community!

as far as I can see, your only code that you put in main.c is:

HAL_GPIO_TogglePin(GPIOI, GPIO_PIN_1);
HAL_Delay(500);

It is a simple one and works perfectly on the STM32F7508-DK.

Do you know, which function in HAL_Init() is causing this issue?

You don't need to set a breakpoint, because HAL_Init() is called in the beginning inb main(). Just:

  • start debugging using F11,
  • wait until the debugger runs and points to HAL_Init() in main.c
  • step over using F6 until you find the function that is stuck

Could you please share the .ioc file so we can check your clock settings too?

Regards

/Peter

Thanks for your suggestion Peter, I found out that was getting stuck in the HAL_Delay() call then found out that I needed to add two lines to the following function within stm32f7xx_it.c

void SysTick_Handler(void)
{

  /* USER CODE BEGIN SysTick_IRQn 0 */
	HAL_IncTick();
	HAL_SYSTICK_IRQHandler();

  /* USER CODE END SysTick_IRQn 0 */
  /* USER CODE BEGIN SysTick_IRQn 1 */

  /* USER CODE END SysTick_IRQn 1 */
}

Thanks again.

Hi @MC.4osmes ,

Welcome to the STM32 Community :)

If you still need some getting started resources related to STM32 product, I suggest you to refer to the step by step tutorials.

I runned into same issue in my case everything stucks at MX_GPIO_Init -> HAL_TIM_IRQHandler and doesn't move any futher (code of @mc.4osmes doesn't help for me)
