Oddly the on board NFETS are rated 60v, why only 20v input? Can we safely go to +48vdc, if not why? Our motor driven FW the voltage does not go above Vbus.
Is FOC space vector 7 phase or 5 phase switched?

At least the L7986 step-down regulator (U9) is only specified up to 38V.

There's a 26V TVS right at the input...
I'd say the capacitors' rating may be limiting, too.
Maybe you want to contact ST directly, through web support form or through FAE.

There may be other critical capacitor, too.
The BAT30 Schottky is 30V rated; I'm not sure whether that's limiting or not.

Hard to imagine only 38v when the market has gone to 48v on almost all motor drives.

Perhaps it's more of a hobby EVM targeted for 20v drone motors.

Yes, but as you've hinted, it's a pity.
48V is maybe a bit much, but 24V (nominally; in fact it's more up to 30V) is quite common in industrial and semi-industrial settings. With a bit of attention, the board's utility might've been extended.

Going by the listed specs and size, the board indeed seems to be designed specifically for RC Drone applications powered by up to 6S LiPo battery packs.
The form factor required for these applications may be hard to meet with higher voltage rated capacitors etc.
For higher voltage ratings there is already X-NUCLEO-IHM08M1 (48V max) which can be used with NUCLEO-G431RB or other NUCLEO boards.

BEMF may double the VCC so it can not use in DC 48V, If you want to work under 48V .That need to modify all Schematch
