STM32F746G Discovery: Getting started with audiocodec WM8994

Good day

I have made an audio spectrum analyser using the STM32F7 board described in the title. Using the ADC and an external board which made sure there was a DC offset to prevent going out of the ADC voltage specs i was able to read audio signals. Unfortunately something came loose which broke the ADC.

Instead of changing the whole board just for the ADC, I would like to do the same but instead using the blue input jack to get my audio. Unfortunately I find it quite unclear how to get it all started.

If I understand well the blue aux input is directly connected to the 2 analog inputs of the audiocodec. Then the audiocodec communicates with the STM32F7 microcontroller using I2S or SAI.

Setting up the codec is also done on the STM by sending commands to the codec. Is this correct?

How can I get started? Any tips? I have opened the audio playback and record demo which can be found in the repository of CubeMX, but it did not make it clear to me.

Kind regards and many thanks!

Tim
