Hello everyone,

We recently ordered an STM32F407VET6 board for our project because the specific board we needed wasn’t available. However, we’re now concerned about the authenticity of the board and whether it might be fake. We’re encountering issues like ST-LINK not being detected when trying to program it through STM32CubeIDE.

Here are a few questions we have:

  1. How can we verify if the board is genuine or counterfeit?
  2. If it turns out to be a fake, does that mean the board won’t work, or are there still ways to make it functional?
  3. We are considering ordering a separate ST-LINK for debugging and programming. Is this a good solution if the onboard ST-LINK is malfunctioning?

We appreciate any guidance on what steps to take, as this board is crucial for our project. If there are other ways to ensure the board works or any alternative suggestions, please let us know.

actually we needed this board for our project but since it wasn't available that's why we ordered STM32F407VET6.
Guide us what to do now.

So you bought an STM32f407-DISCO board, or Something Else?

The DISCO board has an integrated ST-LINK that connects via the North End Mini USB cable, not the Micro USB on the South End.

You need a suitable and working data cable for connectivity. The computer needs to find the attached USB Device and load the appropriate drivers so that applications can FIND IT.

Not clear that you're talking about the same thing, so separated from that thread.

 

For a start, you need to state clearly and precisely what board you are talking about.

Give a link to it, and to its documentation.

If it's a genuine ST board, it will be listed on ST's site, and sold through ST's official distributors.

It will have User Manual, schematics, etc, published on ST's site.

eg, https://www.st.com/en/evaluation-tools/stm32f4discovery.html 

ST's boards are called "Nucleo", "Discovery", etc.

If you got it from Aliexpress, ebay, Amazon or the like, it is highly unlikely to be a genuine ST product.

You can try contacting the seller for support - but good luck with that!

Make sure you get a genuine ST-Link - not one of the "pen drive" or other fakes:

If the board you bought does not have an ST-Link, then it can't be malfunctioning!
