Can T1635-600G replace T3035H-6G?

Margaret

We selected the Triac ST# T1635-600G for refrigerator project, to control the compressor (inductive loads). Tested T1635-600G, the heat is very serious when passing 16A current, even using a heat sink temperature is more than 100°C. Therefore, I want to use T3035H-6G. May I ask how much heat sink is required for this model when it passes 16A? Or do you have app recommendations? Are there any guidelines on heat dissipation? Thank you!

just from ds : T16xx :

T30xx :

So at 16A : about 19W -> 16W dissipation with T16 -> T30 ; ( about 20% less , with T30 )

>how much heat sink is required for this model when it passes 16A?

About the same, as with T16 ; but choose T30xx (T16 is at its limit - never good idea !)

>Or do you have app recommendations?

You need more/better heat sink.

>Are there any guidelines on heat dissipation?

Same, as always : the cooler you keep the semiconductor, the longer it will be alive . :)

Here, with 16W loss and desired heat sink temp of about 60° C , at max. 30° ambient you need : (60-30)/16 = 1.8 °/W heat sink. (Or smaller heat sink with forced cooling, using a fan.)

Something like this : (100mm size)

And be aware : triac is not isolated, so need isolated mounting and thermal grease !

Please choose the T3035H-6G because is a 150°C max Tj so better in term of dissipation.
