Uninstalling STVP7 after botched install
2003-07-24 02:28 PM
Hi
I have just tried to install STVP7 (P for programmer, not D for debugger) on an NT4 machine. Unfortunately the step for installing ST Parallel port interface failed. The error was something like ''resource not available''. Now STVP7 lives in the start menu and runs, but can't find the parallel port. I want to uninstall and start over, but STVP7 doesn't appear in Add/Remove Programs. So I just delete all of the files. I don't see anything about ST, STM or STVP7 in the registry. I reinstalled STVP7, but it doesn't even try to install the parallel port driver, and the operation is the same -- STVP7 runs, but can't find the parallel port. Error message is ''Error: Cannot Initialize the Parallel Port. Check the STM Parallel driver installation or reinstall the software'' STVP7 is still not visible in Add/Remove programs. Any ideas?2003-07-27 06:53 PM
Hello,
Do you see ''Uninstall>ST Visual Programmer'' in ''Start>ST7 Tool chain''?2003-07-28 06:02 AM
Hi,
Thanks for the tip. I did have that in the Start Menu and I hadn't noticed it before. Unfortunately, clicking that item doesn't uninstall STVP7. Instead, it installs STVP7. Even if I run it twice. I'm guessing a registry screw up. Any idea where to look for the ST tools in the registry? -- Thanks, Matt2003-07-30 02:57 AM
Hi,
The path is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>STMicroelectronics but I am not sure about the parallel port driver. Will get back with info.2003-07-30 05:18 PM
Hi,
Firstly, please confirm the version of STVP7 that you tried installing. You will have to remove the files par1sys and parstm.sys in the WINSYSDIR (c:\Winnt\System32\drivers on NT4, 2000 and XP) or par1vxd (W95 and W9 , then reinstall STVP7. If it fails again, please send information regarding 1) the OS(any service packs?) 2) have you tried installing STVD7? any issues with that? 3) was a previous version of STVP7 installed on your PC? which one?2003-07-31 05:08 AM
hi Dasg,
I removed the two .sys files you mentioned, rebooted, and re-ran STVP7 installer. This time the Parport driver did run. It failed with this exact message: ''Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.'' It then attempted to install the ''Microconnect'' driver, and that failed with this message: ''Unable to create par1284.sys service (0x5aa).'' Since I have other apps installed that use the par port (FPGA programmer) I suspect I will have to try disabling services and rerunning the install until I find a combination that works. -Matt2003-07-31 05:17 PM
Hey Matt,
Did you check the uninstall option in Start>ST7 Tool chain menu? Is the problem still there? Good luck! [ This message was edited by: dasg on 01-08-2003 05:52 ]
