I appreciate this is only a C compiler, but that's all I need for the moment (and the C++ compilers cost $2000 more). Has anyone used this before? Are rigelcorp.com even vaguely reputable?

It works ok, but depends how much support etc you are after.

I also think it is free for non-commercial/student use.

I have evaluated it on working projects and found it very useable, also have a look at GNU 166:
