I tried on STM32F103C8Tx. The timer simply swallows the "repetition counter" of the DMA values on the next update.
I was asked to make a simple example of playing a short wav file at a bit rate of 88 Kbps to attract the operator's attention.
The above design allows this to be done gracefully, but I would like to output the carrier frequency to ultrasound.
