Get a second PC with a decent operating system?
If your PC has 64-bit processor, you can install 64-bit Windows in a virtual machine.

I am a li´l confused, I can´t find any requirements restricting to a 64bit system.
In addition, the installer´s name is indicating both win32 and win64 :
st-stm32cubeide_1.3.0_5720_20200220_1053_x86_64
A second PC is no option.

The "x86_64" is from x86-64. Welcome to the Eclipse - a tool built on a slow virtual platform for the sake of cross platform compatibility, yet not supporting 32-bit platforms. :D

Then, how about Keil MDK? It is 32 bit.

Oh,nonoononono.
No Apple and NO linux.
But I made a decision. For testing the nucleo boards I can borrow a 64bit PC.
I´ll buy an used old 32bit PC for my old zilog z8encore stuff, which I have to support for next few years.
If STMCubeMX is not my style... well... the time is come to do so anyway.
Thank you all for fast answering, stay healthy and clean
regards
Bernhard

This is an inappropriate comparison. The macOS and iOS are software only for a specific platforms of one company. Eclipse on the contrary is meant to be a cross-platform universal development tool.
