Hi all,
I'm attempting to run the simplest example code provided for the STM32H745XI dual core (M7 and M4 cores). I've configured my cube debugger as explained in the link below, and I'm having no success debugging or even starting the second core (M4). Is there something else that I'm missing? There are two GPIO's configured, one for each core, and the only core that actually gets to running is the M7. Other than some GPIO flipping the code is exactly what cube generated for initializing the two cores! Below is the code for each core's main.c.
M4 core

So it turns out it was a hardware issue... I flashed the same firmware on a newer PCB revision and it works without a hitch. I suspect the regulators were damaged on the other revision which caused issues for both cores to run simultaneously considering I could run each core individually.

Ensure BOOT_CM4 is enabled and that your linker file puts the CM4 code where the CPU expects it, based on the option bytes. I'm able to debug dual core in STM32CubeIDE on the STM32H745. What happens when you try to debug the CM4 core?
2020-07-20 08:36 PM
I had already checked the boot options for the CM4, it's enabled and the configured flash address matches the linker (0x8100000). I've tried debugging the CM4 as described in the document I linked by first flashing both cores using the CM7 debug build, and then attaching in a non-reset mode using the CM4 debug config. I'm seemingly able to attach, but the PC is pointing to address 0x10 with a SIGTRAP reported by the debugger.
2020-07-20 08:47 PM
You'll need to flash the CM4 build as well as the CM7. They're effectively independent projects as they occupy different cores and flash space.
When attached to the CM4, hit reset (in the IDE) and see where the PC goes.
Look at 0x08100000 in memory and see if your program is there.
2020-07-20 11:47 PM
I struggled with this problem when first getting started with dual cores using eclipse. The m4 sigtrap suggests that there is a hidden breakpoint or something but what i discovered is that you need to click on the resume both cores button to start, not the usual start button. I couldn't find this documented anywhere, but it makes the difference between it working and not.
2020-07-21 07:04 AM
Could you post a screenshot of the button placement? Also, did you have the both images loaded through one debug config (document has it done through CM7 debug build), or did you load them separately?
2020-07-21 07:06 AM
I haven't verified by directly inspecting flash, but both images should be flashed based on my configuration and build log.
2020-07-21 07:37 AM
As a sanity check I read out 10kB at flash address 0x8100000, looks populated to me

Perhaps your debug configuration would be useful as well
