Does anyone know where we can buy STM32F767ZI? Parts have been out of stock for years.

Starting about two years ago, we recommended our customers book orders for their processors well in advance, but we also strongly recommended that they immediately buy a bunch of Nucleo boards so they could strip processors if need be.

After a while, people like Digikey and Mouser started limiting the number of Nucleo boards you could buy, probably because they are targeted for the education market. But what good is a demonstrator board where you can't buy the processors? (see the Nucleo 429ZI, many hundreds in stock, but no processors for about 2 years)

It's terrible when you have orders for $15,000 devices, but you can't finish production because you can't get processors, so stripping processors off of dev boards would buy time until the processors showed up again.

As it turns out, the critical missing parts may be the PHY chips for the ethernet port (Microchip). Luckily the Nucleo boards come with these PHY chips.

Stock is what gets carried when the supply out strips demands. Schedulers estimate what will likely sell based on prior trends, and will use that to fill slack capacity at the fabs.

At the moment there are more orders and people waiting for existing orders to be filled, than there are parts.

People who don't have tickets will not win the lottery..

People who laddered orders for the last two years will be getting parts, might get pushed out a quarter if there's an issue at the fab. But parts are getting built, parts are getting shipped.

When you're told there's a 40-80 week lead time, expect to have to place an order and wait.

The same people waiting for those orders are likely to also want to grab any random items that show up on shelves. If they are more nimble or have a better relationship with the distributor, guess who gets those parts..

People with excess parts are selling them through brokers. There's obviously demand and pricing will reflect that.
