I am referring to L6491 EVM from ST Microelectronics. It is driving 3 Phase motor MOSFETS. Is there any equivalent isolated motor driver or Can I isolate the PWM signals coming from the uController using optical isolation?

Hello @APeth.1 and welcome to the ST Community.

The STGAP2HD s a dual gate driver which provides galvanic isolation between each gate driving channel and the low voltage control and interface circuitry.

It has the same current capability of L6491 but do not integrates the comparator.

Another option is the single gate driver STGAP2HS

Hello Cristiana,

On ST website I came across a document where L6491 IC is listed below "600V HB Driver for IGBT/MOS optimized for FOC". Can we interface "STGAP2HD" with Processors working with FOC algorithm?

What does it mean by "STGAP2HD" not getting integrated with comparator?

Hello @APeth.1,

yes, you can use the STGAP2HD as gate drivers in you three-phase application with FOC algorithm.

What does it mean by "STGAP2HD" not getting integrated with comparator?

In the L6491 is integrated a comparator for the fault protection, in the STGAP2HD is not present.

Hello Cristiana,

I had few queries regarding STGAP2HD as gate drivers

1. Do you have any reference design where STGAP2HD is implemented for 3-phase motor operation?

2. Is STGAP2HD qualified for AEC-Q100?

3. Will ST give support for minimum 5 years for this driver IC?

Hello @APeth.1

1. no reference design is currently available for 3-phase motor application.

You can find some "Layout guidelines and considerations" in the STGAP2HD datasheet (page 13)

2. no

3. yes
