can anyone suggest that which is the best for battery application linear regulator or switching regulator.
Regulator specifications should be
1) Input voltage 5V-48V
2) 2A current rating
3) Output voltage 5V.
3) Ultra low Quscient current.
please suggest part number.

as your input power is 5V-48V you and you need Ultra low quscient current you should select switching regulator.
linear regulators have less power efficiency than switching ones but normally they need less components an cheaper and easier to drive .
if you use a lineral regulator whit Vin48 and Vout 5 at the current 2A you will face several problem .

Only Switching is suitable, linear regulators is based on resistor and will be hot for current more than 1 ampere .. but switching regulator is frequency based and never will be hot by good config of Duty cycle and frequency !
