SPI: master in read! I can use SS pin?

Hi, I use ST7LITE19. I read external ADC with SPI.

I must generate the clock and start conversion with SS pin: I set low SS and I start clock, after 5 CLK I have adc conversion!

I have setting:

SPICR = 1111.0000

1 -> interrrupt enable

1 -> SPI enable

1 -> 8MHz /4

1 -> Master mode

0 -> CPOL

0 -> first CLK

0 -> 8MHz /4

SPICSR = 0000.0010

1 -> SS software management

I can start both pin: SS and CLK?
