Forum mis-counting number of replies

Typically means someone else responded concurrently to you. Or more specifically whilst you were typing.

If you refresh you'll see their post and yours, and there will be Three replies.

The whole page doesn't refresh when you reply

MNapi got a response logged at 12:11, with edit at 12:12, your post got logged at 12:13

This definitely tends to occur for me when I'm making a considered post, quoting the poster, or finding the salient cites. As you did in that thread.

I see it occasionally, and just see it as an annoyance.

More annoying is thinking there's no posts on the thread, and I see 8-10 others after I post. I'm not sure if that's a page rendering issue, but I feel it's happened more than once as the matrix glitches..

I suspected that and did refresh (more than once, IIRC) - but the extra reply didn't appear.

There was a further hint when typing '@' brought up 3 names ...

It seems the forum does have a few of these "race conditions"; eg,
