You can find a schematic example using STM SO-8 L9616D transceiver included in STM8/128-EVAL evaluation board User Manual (UM0482) and available at

http://www.st.com/mcu/familiesdocs-113.html

CAN driver examples are available inside STM8S firmware library. Regards.
