The schematic and the user manual? You don't link to the tutorial, so no idea here if it refers to this board, or something else. The ST-LINK VCP has specific wired connectivity to a UART on the STM32L5, LPUART1 is the primary, and you'd have to change a lot of solder bridges to accommodate USART3 on PD8/PD9

To use USART2 you need to wire the pins up to a USB-to-CMOS Serial adapter from SiLabs, FTDI, et al.

What pins are you using? How are those pins connected to the PC? Can you open the port? What port are you opening? Do your port setting match?

Note that the VCP is on USART3, not USART2.

TeraTerm could also be buffering until it sees a "\n", but less likely.

Hello @raitaimoorali

I suggest you first to use USART3 NOT USART2.

Else,If PuTTY is not showing anything when you try to communicate with your STM32 board, there could be a few potential issues to consider:

  • Correct COM Port
  • Baud Rate
  • Bad Connections
  • USB Drivers problem
  • Code Execution problem
  • Bad PuTTY Configurations

If you've gone through these steps and are still encountering issues, it might be helpful to try a different serial monitor application or test the communication on a different computer to isolate the problem further.

Best regards.

II

What pins is it using?

Parameters here are all wrong.

HAL_UART_Transmit(&huart2, (unsigned char *)&buffer, 6, sizeof(buffer));

Try this

HAL_UART_Transmit(&huart2, (unsigned char *)buffer, strlen(buffer), 500);

Hello @TDK

I have also tried to print hello world using USART3 but could not get at putty teraterm. I have attached the SS of all steps i have done please check. thanks

Hello @Tesla DeLorean

Thanks for the reply i also tried your solution, but it did not work.

for usart2

PA2 = USART2_TX

PA3 = USART2_RX

for usart3

PB10 = USART3_TX

PB11 = USART3_RX

but it did not work

Hi @Issamos

Thanks for the reply. I I tried with USART3 but things do not work. I have uploaded the steps please check including teraterm settings.

How is USART2 supposed to be working in this context? How's it wired up that would facilitate this?

Isn't the ST-LINK VCP connected via LPUART1 on PG7 and PG8 on the NUCLEO-L552ZE-Q ??

thanks for the reply @Tesla DeLorean. i just followed one tutorial where he explained that if you set up USART2 it will send data automatically to the terminal. I am not sure either because it includes alternate function stuff etc and can be get data at the putty terminal. I am not sure did i miss something?
