Are there any examples for the LCD available?

Also are the examples stm32f746 examples with in the stm32cube firmware pacakge compatible with the STM32F746 discovery - the boards look a whole lot different.

Not sure I understand the question, there are specific directories calling out the STM32F746G-DISCO as a target for the examples. Which boards look different?

and you find the LTDC example you are seeking for at this path:
