I have got question: why generally 16 bit microcontrollers are not popular like 8 or 32 bit?

M​ainly I think because 32-bit solves a lot of problems related to math and address space.

A​lso, what characterizes a 16 vs 32-bit MCU? The Cortex-M uses a 16-bit wide instruction set. What about the Motorola 68000?
