Start on the Mouser, RS or whoever your preferred distributor is and you should find something that is simple to connect for about $2. The advantage of being off-chip is you'll actually get better resolution and a lower noise floor as well.

"Limited Support" ie this is a complex and niche product.
I think more specifically it is they want customers for the part that are self-sufficient, and have their own roster of engineers to work on the end-user application, and not for AD FAE's to have to carry that work. This generally rules out students and one-man operations run out of a basement, where there is very low probability of them becoming a large/significant customer.
