Bldc mechanical resistance

Hello i want to implement a variable mechanical resistance using a BLDC.

So for example the shaft of the motor is turned by an external force and the bldc tries to counteract the force to the tune of e.g. 100Watt.

Since the bldc acts like a generator it should be possible, but i do not know where to start.

Could not come up with the search terms.

So you want to control the BLDC by specifying a torque? Don't think that will be easy. You could control it by position, but even that is quite complicated. Controlling by position would counteract the force applied.

Seems like a stepper motor would be more suitable for this application. There are a ton of stepper motor drivers out there.
