No other changes needed apart from IP and Netmask settings, and this is working as I mentioned before so I propose you use some traffic sniffing tool like Wireshark on you PC to look for ARP packets sent from the board and to make sure that it is visible in your network.
Make sure your PC is not using some firewall to block some responses. what I can assure you of is that your ping should work with the example I've send you, so it is either a problem with your hardware or your testing environment.
