SPV1040 incorrect documentation and design information - Ignore the vacuous label.

Hello Everyone,

I lodged this support request and was told by ST that they only support large volume OEM manufacturers, and I don't warrant them providing support. Go find a consultant or lodge on the forum.

Can anyone assist explaining ST product, documentation, or even fix their documentation for them?

Support Request verbatim:

Production Forecast:

 1k to 10k

Project Name:

SPV1040 incorrect documentation and design information

Case Description:

Hello,

I am re-lodging this support request because the case was closed without actually resolving anything.

The existing ST documentation is not fit for the purpose intended. So I can not see the point in ST telling me to go to another design house to answer questions about the documentation and design of an ST chip. How can that be fair, reasonable or appropriate?

Additionally support forums cannot update or fix incorrect, inadequate or unsuitable ST part and design documentation.

Please provide adequate support directly.

As I said last time:

I am trying to use the SPV1040 and it has extremely poor documentation:

  1. Critical design information on the MPP algorithm missing
  2. How to choose Vmp is missing
  3. Limits of operation ill defined
  4. spice model missing
  5. simulation limits not defined, usually says error
  6. Mismatching BOM on STEVALisv006V2, missing components,
  7. Poor design information, spread across datasheet and STEVAL app note.
  8. Errors between STEVAL app note and actual BOM
  9. STEVAL schematic missing indicator components and logic chip not defined.
  10. Schematic does not match Gerber file

Q1. How can I actually design something with this poor documentation?

Q2. How reliable is the chip actually, considering the poor design information?

Q3. How confident should I be that the attached simulation will work with 2V solar cell to charge NiMh batteries at 4.2V?

Q4. Is a Schottky diode necessary between the Lx and VOUT pins as shown in Figure 1 of the datasheet with this simulation?
