Looking for BAT29 Schottky metal-Si junction diode replacement

Hi folks,

I am in search of a replacement Schottky metal/Si diode like the ST Microelectronics BAT29. These diodes are currently available as repackaged through NTE Electronics as the NTE112, which is good, but it would be better to have a part that is currently in production. In the past I have also used the Hitachi 1SS106. There are many 1SS106 knockoffs, but they don't work properly for my application. The BAT29 had some special parameters that were no longer required very often.

You can try to select your preferred parameters in the Schottky Signal Diodes selector (left side with pull-down arrows). Maybe the 1N5711 meets your needs, or maybe the BAR18?

I have tried the 1N5711 and it works okay, but definitely not as well as the BAT29 or Hitachi 1SS106.

I neglected to mention it needs to be a through hole part. The BAR18 as far as I can tell only comes as surface mount. I did determine that the BAS70JFILM works okay also, but it too is a surface mount part.

What quantity would I need to order to do a custom run of the BAT29, assuming that would even be possible, and how much would it cost?

The argument " I need through hole" is lame. Some adaptation and an SMD part can be made to have wires.

Thanks for your response! Ordinarily I would agree, and I have in fact made that argument in other circumstances given the numerous options available for using SMT parts in through-hole situations (e.g. https://www.capitaladvanced.com/6000ser.htm) However, in this case the application is a STEM demonstration for kids, many of whom may not even have soldering equipment. The demonstration is designed to allow people to simply twist the leads of an LED and Schottky diode together to make an RF detector. Have a look: https://youtu.be/3j7sAjWgySQ

If you have ideas for how a surface mount part can be effectively used in this situation, I'm all ears!

While the BAR18 is SMD, the 1N5711 is available and still in DO35 package. However Vf@1mA is about 400 vs 320 mV and C@0v is 1.5 vs 0.9 pF against the BAT29. I wonder however if CF does matter as the parallel LED normally has much higher C. I thinks some resonance mechanisme is involved, as otherwise two antiparallel LED shoulf work too.
