How suitable are the ST Micro time of flight sensors for water tank level measurement?

Do the emitted photons reliably reflect off the surface of the water and back to the detector so that an accurate time of flight measurement can be made?

Hello,

First sorry for the delay. I was checking internally.

So to be able to get a good measurement the bottom of the water tank has to be very dark. It will avoid the refraction of the photons.

To do water tank level measurement you can use either :

  • the VL53L5CX which is a multi zone sensors. In this case, take the results of the zones with teh higher photons return to get the perpendicular return (less refraction)
  • the VL55L4CX which is a single zone sensor but with a narrow Filed of View.
