Community Forum - Attaching Files

Hi

I tried to attach a small test project written with STM32CubeIDE. I tried it as a zip, but that was not allowed. The advisory for the file attachment wrote that .tar files were allowed.

I used 7zip to make a tarball, of 9.3 MBytes. It seemed to upload; progress bar etc, then disallowed the tarball.

The post i wished to attach the file to was:

https://community.st.com/t5/stm32-mcus-products/stm32-cubeide-how-to-set-values-in-dtcm-to-non-zero-values-using/m-p/724368#M261855

We were able to upload such files in he old version of the forum, why not now? Is it a security issue or what?

Is there a work-around?

It is quite frustrating. Simple problems can be articulated with code snippets etc in the body of the posts, but having a working complete working program  enable users to work through the code in its entirety and see the context of the code within the project.

Kind Regards

Rob

Hello @Garnett.Robert,

I'm pleased to let you know that you can upload .zip files on the ST community. We know this has been a pain point for our members, especially given that .7z and .rar was allowed.

Best regards,
Laurids

Yep, we're all annoyed with it too. ST says its due to "security concerns" but that doesn't resonate with anyone else. *.7z or *.rar will work.

Please support .zip attachments - STMicroelectronics Community

Indeed.

In fact, I think you can just rename a .zip file to .7z and the forum will take it!

Security concerns???

I suppose we could all go back to the abacus and just give up on modern computers altogether.  I will give .rar a go next time.  I use rar for my zipping, I even paid for a copy. I prefer the interface to the others.

I've got a project for the STM32H7B3I with TouchGFX, working Inventek WiFi, syncing and setting of  the RTC with internet time, fancy memory allocation and task monitoring and a whole host of other goodies like printfDMA,  for the virtual comm port that I wanted to share, but they closed down the "my inventions" branch of the forum or whatever it was called.  I asked about it, and they advised it was on the list of things to do. Yehh! Right!

I am thinking of setting up a web site for people to enable people to download my stuff.  Before I post it I will do a virus scan on it.

I don't want to use Drop Box or the Microsoft cloud thingy as they are too expensive and in Microsoft's case, well its in the name.

Kind regards

Rob

Github is a good way to share projects.

The old "my inventions" part of the forum was clunky and very undercooked. No big loss IMO. You can also make a post to share stuff, but it can kind of get lost in the mix as all posts do eventually.
