STM32mp157F DK2 burned

karu2003
Associate II

First acquaintance with STM32mp157FDK2. A couple of weeks ago I bought two sets to try. In a week I figured out how to put together my image with Yocto. And today what was supposed to happen happened. I connected the KIT to the power supply with PD3. KIT is broke. The thermal camera shows strong heating. STPMIC1APQR short circuit STPMIC1APQR. burned out. Unsuccessful test STM32mp1.

How did you power the kit ?

Check real voltage of your power supply output.

(Your description telling nothing about, but something like this is typical for too high voltage or ESD event.)

his is PD3. The voltage can be up to 20V. How do ST manage CC1 and CC2?  have ST any overvoltage protection?

for ESD why didn't it work ESDA7P120-1U1M

Really 20V ?

from manual UM2637 :

STM32MP1157F-DK2 cannot operate power supply from PD3 source?

USB-C PD3 can provide voltage up to 20V.

Hmmm- whats PD3 ?

see circuit:

CN6 is power in, 5V (3A) .

usb-c pd 3.0

No. See circuit diagram... usb-c -> 5V -> to STPMIC1A .

No fast charging - only fast killing. :)

Come on, i just looked at the manual -> power -> and showed it here.

And if you you look at the circuit - you see the CN6 -> 5V input . Nothing else there.

So if the charger puts out 5V , everything fine. But if it tries fast charge... ok. you know now.

manual says:

btw

I have a quick charger plug , is labeled : A output : 5V , 3A ; B+C output : 5V/9V/12V , 2A .

So if using the 5V output, everything fine.
