Using NFC with STM32 for Smart Pet Tracking – Best Practices?

JohnWilliam21

I'm working on a smart pet tracking system using an STM32 microcontroller and an NFC tag for identification. My goal is to store pet information on the tag and enable quick scanning with an NFC reader.

I'm considering using the M24LR04E-R chip for data storage, but I want to ensure optimal antenna design and reading range for reliable scanning. What are the best practices for designing an NFC antenna for a pet collar, considering power efficiency and real-world usage?

Would a single-sided flexible antenna work well in this scenario, or should I explore other options?

designing an NFC antenna for a pet collar

The part in the pet collar will be a tag, not the reader. The tags usually come integrated with their antennas. You can find small flexible tags, flatter than M24LR04E-R, that can be sewn into the collar.
