'' Split this into 2 levels of abstraction : First develop the I2C driver the PCF8574. You are effectively trying to bit bang using I2C, so write a driver that writes bytes to the PCF8574 as if it is a 8 bit port. Get this one working first. Second develop a HD47780 driver. Controlled by writing to 8 bit port.
