stm32 timer doesn't count

medraouf

hi, i have a problem with my stm32 timer in counter mode, i connected it to a lcd screen, and put a pulse signal in pin PB0, and i wanted to count these pulses and show them on the lcd, but the pulse count is stuck at 0, can you help me with it please? i think it's the timer configuration or the interrupt problem but i'm not sure, and thanks in advance.

Isolate the problem using breakpoints in Debug single step mode. For example:

Is the pulse being received?

Does the interrupt happen?

Is the correct value being sent to the display?

can you tell me how to do that exactly? it's my first time with it, and i am using a proteus simulation...

I have no experience with proteus.

Perhaps you can look in the CubeF1 / HAL example trees for "External Count"

>>i think it's the timer configuration or the interrupt problem but i'm not sure..

We could imagine, or you can show the code as you have it so far.

Post to Github, or use the code pasting tool </>

Tips, buy me a coffee, or three.. PayPal Venmo Up vote any posts that you find helpful, it shows what's working..

Hello @medraouf

As you are using an external pin to count the pulses, you need to set the timer input GPIO pin(PB0) in stm32CubeMX (clock source = ETRx) and then enable Timer interrupt in NVIC table, so whenever the counter counts x ticks (defined by ARR), it overflows and generates an interrupt signal!

In the code, in the counter overflow ISR handler, you can increment your pulsecount variable and write to the LCD.

(the callback function’s name that gets called when an overflow interrupt occurs is HAL_TIM_PeriodElapsedCallback) and to start the timer, use HAL_TIM_Base_Start_IT(&htim2);

Hope that helps!
