Hi,
I just updated the firmware on the LINK tool as the utility app said the firmware on the cable was an old version.
Following the instruction appeared on the screen, I updated the firmware using the option from the menu ST-LINK -> Firmware Update.
The firmware on the link cable is now
V2J23S4 according to the information on the screen.
Before the update, connecting to the target and programming the .srec file used to take only a matter of a few seconds.
Now, with the new one, it took almost 1 hour until it finally released the connection and the device memory is displayed (it took further 20 minutes after the 'Verification... OK ' message appeared on the screen (please see below), until the GUI fubakkt became responsive).
Below is the log - please can you tell us what is causing this problem, or could we have the old version of the firmware back?

I've posted mirrors to older versions of the ST-LINK Utilities, and firmware updaters in the past, there is no difficulty downgrading the firmware. I would avoid J24 and J25 as these have issues with holding devices in reset when attached to USB chargers or battery packs.

Consider also J-Link OB firmware, couple of older ST-LINK Utilities posted here, don't recall FW# in each.

Hi Clive
Thank you for your response. Please could we have a link from where we can find those older versions of firmware ?
Thanks!

SWD frequency is set to 5kHz, which is veeery slow.
Try increasing it to something like 1.8MHz in 'Target/Settings' :
