I'm using STM32CubeIDE/MX to program and debug a simple demonstration of UART on the B-L475E-IOT01A development board (with integrated STM32L475VG). The code is straightforward (and autogenerated, apart from the hello world message).
Probing the pins for UART4, I can see that transmission is happening. However, I can't get anything on USART1 (the VCP on this board). I have checked that the serial connection settings match, and tried a variety of different serial console programs. Not so much as a character appears!
My hunch at the moment is that this is an issue with the adapters converting USB-A to USB-C. (My laptop only has USB-C ports, ugh.) Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a workaround? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Brett

So! The problem here is that if you start from a clear pinout, the default pins for USART1 RX/TX are not the pins connected to ST-LINK. I only discovered this by going and seeing what a default configuration looks like in another context, and noticed that different pins were labeled UART1. If you use the default pinout, you'll have USART1_TX/RX on PB6/7. If you clear pinout and then enable USART1, MX will use pins A9/10. These are USB on-the-go pins; I did try getting the UART to communicate on this second USB port, but it isn't recognized as a virtual COM port, so no luck.
