Advice of hardware and software for STM32

I am new to this group and wish to start using the STM32 group of MCUs. There seems to be a lot of choice here. Can someone recommend what hardware/software to use in my development. I have used MCUs from Microchip, TI and various 8051.

I have now purchased a Nucleo board and registered for the courses but I 

cannot login to the hands on course for STM32Cube basics MOOC with hands-on exercises. When I enter my email address and password it says my email address is not available. This is

. Could it be that it wants a company name in teh email address?? I have tried online support but that site is not very user friendly.
