IPM30B: minimal working setup

Hello,

Is there any resource or reference available like tutorial video or presentations to set up a minimal working configuration for the IPM30B? I have experience on a low power setup with X-NUCLEO-IHM16M1  but I am new to hardware assemblying with ST and I am trying to understand how to correctly configure a basic setup to make the motor start. My goal is to have a minimal working system, including:

- IPM30B power stage

- G431RB or G474RE development board, with the suitable motor control connector and with flat cable

- Two separate low voltage DC supplies (one for auxilliary 15V port and the other one for Vdc bus) 

- Low power PMSM with 24V nominal voltage 

- Basic configuration using Motor Control Workbench / MCSDK for PMSM sensorless basic operation

At the moment, I am not sure about the correct jumper connections required to match the configuration settings in ST Motor Control Workbench, the proper wiring details between the IPM30B and the control board, and the correct procedure to safely power on the setup. I am also looking for any reference design, example project, or application note that could be used as a starting point. I have correctly placed the C1 capacitor. 

Any guidance, documentation, or example would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The STEVAL-IPM30B is an IGBT-based SLLIMM (Small Low-Loss Intelligent Molded Module) power stage STGIB30M60TS-L, so it is mainly intended for higher motor voltages. Due to the relatively high IGBT saturation voltage of IGBT, it is not a good fit for a 24V PMSM minimal setup. The STEVAL-IPM30B is specified for a minimum DC bus voltage of 125V.

For your use case, a low-voltage, MOSFET based reference design would be more appropriate, e.g. the EVSPIN32F0251S1 or the EVALSTDRIVE101?

Thank you for your answer. My final goal is indeed to work at higher voltages. The current low-power setup is only intended as a temporary configuration to perform initial functional checks before moving to high-voltage operation. But I can easily build a high voltage setup directly. The choice was to use the IPM 30B because it was the best fit according to power, current and voltages for the motors under consideration. Furthermore, a M0 processor would be unsuitable for my purposes. For this reason I am currently employing the G431RB or G474RE boards.

In this context, I would like to follow a clear, step-by-step procedure to properly and safely build, power up, and test the setup with the IPM 30B, in order to minimize the risk of damaging the hardware. Is there any documentation or guideline available that describes such a process?

You can find all available documentation on the product website of the STEVAL-IPM30B, whose function is described in detail in UM2709. Further startup assistance can be provided by the power FAE of your local distributor.
