Hello,
I am new to STM32 and need help with UART, please. I have been trying to transfer data with my STM32F407 Discovery Board to the console for a few days. I am using the STM32CUBE IDE, which has a special Command Shell Console to read data from serial ports. Unfortunately, the Command Shell Console remains empty when running the code. I also used 'screen' as an alternative, as I am working under macOS, but this console also stays empty. I have paid attention to the baud rates (115200) and have also tried various clock frequencies. What could be other sources of error that cause no output? I have also posted the code to demonstrate my simple project.
I am very happy about any help and suggestions!

As well as the thread linked by @KnarfB, see also:
which also explains that you have to make some connections manually.

As I recall the STM32F4-DIS-BB used USART6 to get an RS232 serial port out.
It never supported the mbed VCP method, although the DISC1 board did get the STM32F103 changed, and the newer firmware, the plumbing for the pins never got wired.
Use SWD / SWV method, that worked as I recall, might need a solder-bridge (SB) on the PB3 / SWO pin.

Would be great just using jumpers to wire the pins..
I used SWV now. Big thank you for mentioning it. It's the much more easier solution here.
