Hi,
Am working on making a RFID reader using the ST25-EVAL kit. According to its user manual, it is capable of transmitting at 29dBm with external PA. I intend to use this with a 8dBi far field antenna. What is the typical distance my reader can detect tags, with such a setup?
Regards,
Bhargav

Hi Bhargav,
the range also depends on the tag sensitivity.
Assumming a tag sensitivity of around -20dBm, the read range could be easisly around 15 meters.
The attached link-budget picture describes the relation between reader output power, reader sensitivity and tag sensitivity very well.
Best regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel,
could you provide the link-budget calculator you attach?

Hi Max,
I am sorry to say that this calculator version cannot be shared. It was made just for internal use.
But we want to bring this calculator online in the eDesignSuite. Unfortunatly I do not know when this will happen.
Best regards,
Marcel
