I've located a part which is over heating and need to replace? Is there an alternative or is this part still available anywhere

It's the STD3NC60, which is obsolete since a long time.
You could try to replace is with a n-channel FET in TO252, >=600V, <2.2Ohms, faster than 14...19ns, >3.5A, like the STD6N60M2 or the STD5N65M6.
But keep in mind, overheating does not necessarily mean that the FET is defective, but rather overloaded. It might be a good idea to check the circuitry around it.
